This catalog accompanies a touring exhibition organized with the estate of Jan Matulka and the Montclair Art Museum (September 2004 - June 2006). The Global Modernist exhibition extends the focus on Matulka’s work another decade until around 1950. Matulka executed his stronger work in the 1920’s and 1930’s, however his later works reveal his practices of over-painting, working in multiple styles and leaving compositions unfinished.
